Saving and editing Coreflex Import Files
When you download a sample file and the Windows File Download dialog box pops up, Click Save.
This will ensure Excel does not automatically reformat some of the example data. (see below.)
Coreflex standard import files are in CSV format (Comma Separated Value). The file must have and extension of .CSV.
For example ORD1000.CSV.
If it is named ORD1000.XLS it will import but there will be no lines or partial lines / information on the Apply Screen..
Editing and Viewing Import Files Using Notepad and Excel:
It is best to edit files using notepad.
If you edit or view files using excel keep the following in mind:
When opening a CVS file in Excel, Excel will automatically reformat the data in some columns. DO NOT SAVE it in EXCEL Format. Save it in CSV format. (Use File -- Save As)
For example
If there is a long number it will change it to scientific notation. (1000000000 becomes 1 E9) Or..
If a data field has leading zeros (like a zip code or UCC label number) it will remove the leading zeros. (00195 becomes 195)
To stop this from happening the column in Excel must be formated as Text.
It is important to never save the file in excel format (with a .XLS extension) YOU MUST SAVE IT IN A CSV format.
