Active and Inactive Products

Products which are active are displayed on the Inventory Totals screen and may be added to Shipments and ASNs and may have inventory on hand. Products entered on the Search products screen are Active.

Inactive products may be displayed and made Active on the Setup Multiple Products screen. Also, if an ASN is imported, the Import ASN Apply Errors screen will display if an Inactive Product exists on the ASN and allows the user to make the Inactive Products products Active. Additionally, Inactive Products may be made active on the ASN Entry Select Products screen.

Active Products may be made inactive on the Setup Multiple Products screen. Note that a product cannot be made Inactive if it is slotted or contain inventory. Products can also be Applied as Inactive on the Import Products Apply screen. It is important to ensure that all orders have been completely processed (including exports) prior to making a product Inactive.

Impact of making an Active Product Inactive:

It is important to ensure that all orders have been completely processed (including exports) prior to making a product Inactive.

When a product is made inactive, it is removed from the product master and placed into an inactive table. Therefore some queries or reports that require the product record may show partial information. You may always make an Inactive product Active again to resolve this issue.

For example, if an Active product is used to ship orders, entries are made in inventory history. If the product is subsequently made inactive, the inventory history query will still show the order shipment. However some of the fields such as description that come from the product table will not show on the query.
